Change is Good

The past few weeks have definitely held some adventures.

Two weeks ago, I found out that my only other classmate had to return home for some family business, therefore leaving the school.  This, once you do the advanced math, left just me in the class.  Soon after, my leaders approached me and asked me to think about postponing my training until July.  After a long night of thinking, I agreed that I should postpone my training.  The main reason for this is the SoFM is designed for people to work in teams, and unless you suffer from having multiple personalities, then you would agree the teamwork thing would be hard with only one student.

You may ask "uh, then what are you doing now?".  Good question! For the next few months, I will be working with a group called Pathway that teaches English to refugees here in Perth.  This is good since I have NEVER taught English (and some say not really speak it good....hmmmm.....not sure why).

So! that's where I'm at now.  My days are filled with meeting with various groups of people and helping them get learned in English......I'm determined to have all of them saying "ya'll" before I'm done.  Now, on to what you are probably here for....pictures!

The pics below here are of one group of refugees we teach.  They are from the same church in Perth and have immigrated here from Burundi, Africa.  Many of them barley speak English, but I love working with them.  Below, you see me getting a good laugh with a lady I'm helping. Next, you see one of my coworkers, Andrew, helping the group of ladies.  After that, you see me helping one of the ladies with her baby (really, it was just an excuse to hold the little cuttie).

I found this interesting.  These little sharps disposal bins are in many of the public toilets.  They are for drug users to dispose of their needles in a safe way.  Wow!

When I'm not helping with Pathway, I help with Hospo (hospitality).  I think I've become the official cake decorator.  We have special tables set up for any staff who has a birthday.  Here, I'm showing off one of my creations for the birthday girl (I love doing it!)

Note:  This was the only time I had spelled somebody's name wrong on the cake....luckily, it was caught before they brought it out.....oops.

One day, 3 of us sat beside each other and we realized we were all dressed alike.  So, we had to take a picture.  I work with both of them in Hospo.  The girl beside me and I are becoming fast friends.....she actually draws the pictures I put on my cakes.....awesome girl!

I guess that's about it.  I hope you enjoyed my post.  I'll see you in a few more weeks.

  1. So, you're running the "Kellie School for People Who Don't Talk Good and Want To Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too." Good for you!
